PRAIA, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Cabo Verdean President Jose Maria Neves has set Nov. 15 as the date for the country's presidential election, according to a presidential decree published Thursday.
The decision was made in accordance with constitutional and legal provisions after consultations with legally registered political parties and the Council of the Republic, the presidency said in a statement.
If no candidate secures the required majority in the first round, a runoff will be held on Nov. 29, according to the decree.
The decree, which took effect immediately upon publication, formally sets in motion the process of electing Cabo Verde's next president, allowing relevant institutions, candidates and voters to prepare for the election, the statement said. ■
