CAIRO, July 29 (Xinhua) -- The European Commission has disbursed 1.5 billion euros (1.72 billion U.S. dollars) to Egypt under the European Union (EU)'s Macro-Financial Assistance (MFA) program, the Delegation of the EU to Egypt announced on Wednesday.

The 1.5-billion-euro disbursement is the second of three instalments under the second MFA operation, worth a total of 4 billion euros, the delegation said.

The disbursement follows the European Commission's positive assessment that Egypt has successfully met the conditions required for the release of the second tranche, including the implementation of agreed economic policy reforms, continued progress under the International Monetary Fund program, and the fulfilment of the political requirements set out in the Memorandum of Understanding between the EU and Egypt.

The latest disbursement follows the 1-billion-euro short-term Macro-Financial Assistance provided in December 2024 and the first 1-billion-euro instalment under the current 4-billion-euro program, disbursed in January 2026.

With the latest payment, the EU has provided 3.5 billion euros in macro-financial assistance to Egypt since the launch of the partnership, with a final instalment of 1.5 billion euros expected once the remaining agreed conditions have been fulfilled, the delegation said.
