ABUJA, July 21 (Xinhua) -- The Nigerian government said on Tuesday that it looks forward to deepening bilateral cooperation with Germany, particularly in areas of mutual interest.
In a statement issued ahead of Wednesday's high-level meeting between Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu and visiting German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, the Nigerian foreign ministry said the bilateral consultations are aimed at reviewing and strengthening the longstanding ties between the two countries.
According to the statement, Nigeria looks forward to productive engagements that will further consolidate the existing friendship and open new avenues for cooperation in support of inclusive economic growth, regional stability and shared prosperity.
The ministry noted that Germany remains one of Nigeria's foremost strategic partners in Europe, with cooperation spanning trade and investment, renewable energy, climate action, technical assistance, education, healthcare, migration, agriculture, digital innovation and security.
The visit would further strengthen bilateral relations, underscoring the shared commitment of both countries to addressing common global challenges through dialogue and partnership, the ministry added.
The discussions are expected to focus on expanding trade and investment, attracting greater German investment into Nigeria's priority sectors, enhancing cooperation in renewable energy and green development, promoting vocational education and skills development, and strengthening collaboration in science, technology and innovation. ■
