N'DJAMENA, July 22 (Xinhua) -- The 21st Chinese medical team to Chad has donated a new batch of medicines and medical equipment to the Chad-China Friendship Hospital in N'Djamena, the Chadian capital.

Speaking at the handover ceremony on Tuesday, Hospital Director Oumar Hamdan Iguemir said the donation will help address shortages in emergency care, provide essential medicines during peak malaria seasons, and support the long-term treatment of patients with chronic diseases.

He said the support marks a shift in health cooperation between China and Chad, from material assistance to joint capacity building, paving the way for broader, more institutionalized collaboration.

Song Zhifeng, head of the Chinese medical team from east China's Jiangxi Province, said the supplies, including antimalarials, broad-spectrum antibiotics, surgical instruments, oxygen concentrators, and acupuncture needles used in traditional Chinese medicine, were selected based on local clinical needs.

Since 1978, Jiangxi Province has dispatched 21 medical teams comprising more than 240 medical professionals to Chad, where they provide medical care to nearly 20,000 patients every year.
