DAR ES SALAAM, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Sixty young people in Tanzania's southern Mtwara Region have graduated from a vocational training program to enhance employability while promoting sustainable development, officials said Sunday.

The program is the second phase of the Dumisha Amani ("Promoting Peace and Security for Sustainable Development in Tanzania") project, supported by the United Nations Peace and Development Trust Fund and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The project integrates vocational skills training with education to enhance youth employability, entrepreneurship and social cohesion.

Graduates received training in practical fields including food processing, decorative design and electrical installation.

Tanzania's Vocational Education and Training Authority Director General Anthony Mzee Kasore said the initiative provides an important platform for skills development and supports social stability, adding that the authority will continue to expand training opportunities for young people.

Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania Chen Mingjian said the project reflects strong cooperation between China and the UN in supporting youth development and advancing the Global Development Initiative.

She encouraged the graduates to transform their knowledge into practical actions that promote social progress and economic development, contributing to local peace, stability and sustainable development.

UNDP Resident Representative in Tanzania Shigeki Komatsubara said the program plans to train 300 young people across the country.
