TUNIS, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian President Kais Saied on Wednesday received Mauritanian Minister for Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, and reaffirmed Tunisia's commitment to strengthening bilateral ties across economy, trade, culture, education and scientific research.
Saied said Tunisia was among the first countries to recognize Mauritania's independence and has consistently supported it in regional and international forums, read a presidency statement.
Ould Merzoug said he had delivered a written message from Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani to Saied, read the statement.
He said the message focused on issues of common interest, particularly Arab and Islamic causes, and ways to further strengthen bilateral ties, read the statement. ■
