TRIPOLI, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Six people were killed in a traffic accident Wednesday in the city of Zuwara, about 120 kilometers west of the Libyan capital Tripoli, according to the Libyan Ambulance and Emergency Service.
Preliminary reports indicate the crash occurred when two vehicles collided on a coastal road in the city, killing an entire family.
Road traffic accidents are frequent in Libya, which authorities attribute to speeding, weak adherence to traffic regulations, and the deteriorating condition of road infrastructure.
According to estimates based on official data, road accidents in Libya during 2025 have caused between 2,400 and 3,900 fatalities nationwide. ■
