GAZA, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Hamas said Tuesday that progress has been made in ongoing talks with Palestinian factions and mediators in Egypt on the Gaza ceasefire and the implementation of a roadmap proposed by mediators.
Taher al-Nunu, media advisor to the head of Hamas's political bureau, said in press remarks that "the Hamas delegation and the national forces have prepared a joint draft of a national and responsible response to the roadmap presented to the movement by the mediators to complete the implementation of (U.S.) President (Donald) Trump's plan."
Al-Nunu said discussions continue on implementing the ceasefire agreement, including unresolved issues in the first phase, while solidifying Palestinian political rights, and expediting the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza to assume its full responsibilities.
He noted that talks focus on "intensifying the delivery of humanitarian aid, initiating relief and reconstruction operations, and achieving a complete Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip in a way that guarantees the security of our Palestinian people."
He said all sides "demonstrated a high degree of positivity and responsibility, aiming to reach a mutually-acceptable agreement."
A Hamas delegation led by its leader in Gaza, Khalil al-Hayya, along with other faction representatives, arrived in Cairo on Friday for the multi-day talks.
The development came as the fragile October 2025 ceasefire between Hamas and Israel falters, with key provisions, including disarmament and reconstruction, yet to be implemented.
The first phase of the ceasefire included an exchange of prisoners and detainees, the entry of humanitarian aid into the strip, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from some areas.
The United States announced in mid-January the start of the second phase of the ceasefire, which includes a complete Israeli military withdrawal, Hamas disarmament, reconstruction, and the establishment of a transitional governing body in Gaza. ■
