CAIRO, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and visiting Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki on Monday discussed bilateral ties and regional issues, including security in the Horn of Africa, Sudan and the Red Sea.
Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's support for Eritrea's sovereignty and territorial integrity, while Afwerki praised Egypt's support for Eritrea's development efforts and expressed his country's hope to deepen cooperation with Egypt, according to a statement by the Egyptian presidency.
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international developments. Sisi reiterated Egypt's commitment to maintaining security and stability in the Horn of Africa, which he described as an extension of Egypt's national security.
They also discussed the situation in Sudan and ways to strengthen coordination on Red Sea security and freedom of navigation. ■
