LUSAKA, June 7 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people were killed in an attack by armed bandits in a remote village in Zambia's Western Province, police said late Saturday.
One person suffered head injuries while three others sustained burns during the attack, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday as the attackers set the village on fire, Provincial Police Commissioner Rae Haamonga said in a statement.
According to him, an unknown number of bandits armed with offensive weapons attacked the village and set ablaze five houses together with property, which were burnt to ashes.
"As a result of the attack, seven people tragically lost their lives. Six victims are believed to have died in the inferno, while one infant was allegedly murdered with a hammer," he said.
He added that investigations into the incident were underway. ■
