ADDIS ABABA, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Africa's leading carrier Ethiopian Airlines announced that it will launch thrice-weekly passenger flight service from Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, to Port Louis of Mauritius, effective July 12.
The new route to the island nation underscores the airline's strategic commitment to deepening continental integration while driving economic growth across Southeast Africa and beyond, the airline said in a statement issued on Monday.
"We are delighted to launch this direct flight service to Mauritius, making it easier for Africans and other international tourists to visit this beautiful African island destination, while also enhancing business and trade opportunities," Mesfin Tasew, chief executive officer of Ethiopian Airlines Group, was quoted as saying.
Prior to introducing this direct flight, Ethiopian Airlines served Mauritius through interline and code share partnerships via regional hubs like Johannesburg, Nairobi and Antananarivo.
According to the statement, Ethiopian Airlines operates more than 160 domestic and international passenger and cargo flights across five continents. ■
