ABUJA, May 17 (Xinhua) -- At least 17 police officers were killed in an attack by suspected terrorists on a military training facility in Nigeria's northeastern Yobe State earlier this month, an official said on Saturday.
In a statement, Nigeria Police Force spokesperson Anthony Placid said the attackers launched a coordinated assault on the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Buni Yadi, located in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, on May 8.
According to Placid, the attack targeted police officers undergoing specialised operational training at the facility. He added that several Nigerian Army personnel were also killed in the incident.
The statement quoted Nigeria's acting Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, as paying tribute to the deceased officers and commending their commitment to national security and counter-terrorism operations. ■
