HARARE, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Zimbabwe on Friday launched its first-ever national migration data strategy (2025-2030), aimed at strengthening evidence-based migration governance and development planning.

Developed in partnership with the International Organization for Migration, the strategy will guide coordinated migration data collection, management, and utilization to promote national development, regional integration, and global cooperation, said Tafadzwa Bandama, director-general of the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency, at the launch.

"The national migration data strategy is more than a technical document; it is a strategic instrument that will shape how we understand, govern, and harness migration for inclusive growth," Bandama said.

She noted that Zimbabwe's national policies have previously been constrained by fragmented data, inconsistent reporting, and limited coordination. The new strategy seeks to establish a robust, evidence-based migration governance system that delivers timely, reliable, accurate, and accessible data.

"This strategy will empower policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders with the information they need to make smart, forward-looking decisions," she added.

Bandama emphasized that partnerships with international organizations, regional bodies, and local institutions will be leveraged to ensure the sustainability of the strategy's implementation.

Noting that the strategy marks a new chapter in Zimbabwe's migration governance, Bandama said the country will harness migration data to drive inclusive and sustainable development, strengthen regional integration, and contribute to global migration governance.
