OUAGADOUGOU, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Burkina Faso on Friday celebrated the third edition of the Customs and Traditions Day, an initiative aimed at promoting national cultural values and strengthening social cohesion.
Minister of Territorial Administration and Mobility Emile Zerbo said the day represents "a moment to promote our cultural heritage."
Established on March 6, 2024, the Customs and Traditions Day reflects the willingness of the Burkinabe authorities to consolidate the secular nature of the state while providing a framework for the expression and promotion of values and practices rooted in traditions, Zerbo explained.
According to him, the celebration is also intended to serve as a platform for unity and fraternity between followers of traditional religions and the wider Burkinabe population.
"On this occasion, I fully join this momentum of national communion alongside the custodians and practitioners of customary and traditional beliefs, as well as all our fellow citizens," the minister said.
Zerbo also expressed hope that the commemoration would help strengthen the Burkinabe people's attachment to their cultural roots and further consolidate peace, harmonious coexistence and social cohesion in the country. ■
