KAMPALA, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Uganda will send a 53-member team to the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, the president of the Uganda Olympic Committee said on Thursday.
The Commonwealth Games, scheduled from July 23 to August 2, will feature around 3,000 athletes from up to 74 countries and regions.
Donald Rukare told Xinhua that Uganda will also send athletes to the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in November.
Rukare said Uganda's delegation to Glasgow will include 35 female athletes and five para athletes.
"Currently federations are working very hard to prepare the teams and very soon we shall do the official launch of Team Uganda that will be going to Glasgow," he said.
Uganda will compete in athletics, 3x3 basketball, boxing, track cycling, netball, swimming, para swimming, judo and para powerlifting.
However, star distance runners Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo will not take part in the Glasgow Games.
Uganda won five medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. ■
