KINSHASA, May 12 (Xinhua) -- Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Judith Suminwa Tuluka has praised infrastructure cooperation between the DRC and China, saying it has continued to drive the African country's economic and social development by improving domestic transportation and strengthening regional connectivity.

Tuluka made the remarks on Tuesday during a visit to the Kinshasa ring road project, which is being constructed by Chinese companies.

She noted that she has visited several cooperation projects between the two countries in different parts of the country, which reflect the efforts and expertise of Congolese and Chinese builders and represent important outcomes of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two sides.

According to the prime minister, infrastructure development plays an important role in improving urban efficiency, facilitating the movement of people and goods, and supporting regional economic development.

She called on all parties involved to take advantage of the upcoming dry season to speed up construction, strengthen coordination and resolve bottlenecks affecting the progress of the project.

Financed by Sino Congolaise des Mines (SICOMINES), a joint venture between the DRC state mining company Gecamines and a group of Chinese companies, the main route spans about 72 km and comprises two sections -- the southwestern and southeastern ring roads.

Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi laid the foundation stone for the project in June 2024.
