NOUAKCHOTT, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Mauritania's General Staff of the Armed Forces has dismissed reports circulated by some digital media about alleged movements of fighters across the country's borders as false.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the military described the claims as "inaccurate and deliberately misleading," saying they were part of a disinformation attempt aimed at creating confusion and undermining the credibility of the armed forces.

Mauritania maintains total, permanent and sovereign control over its entire national territory, especially in border areas, said the general staff, adding that the national armed forces remain on maximum alert and fully mobilized to carry out surveillance, security and territorial defense missions.

The statement also warned against spreading or relaying such information and called for vigilance and responsibility in handling security-related information.
