DAKAR, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Senegal is ready to support Mali in efforts to restore peace and stability following recent attacks in the neighboring country, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has said.

Faye made the remarks on Saturday evening in an interview with public broadcaster RTS and private television channels Walf TV and TFM.

"The brotherly Malian people can count at all times on the active solidarity of the Senegalese people and government," Faye said, reaffirming Senegal's willingness to stand by Mali as it faces renewed security challenges.

Faye stressed that the two countries are bound by history and geography, adding that "what affects Mali concerns Senegal, and vice versa."

He also said terrorism and insecurity in Africa should be addressed as African issues, emphasizing the need to anticipate crises, strengthen cooperation among states in the sub-region and enhance intelligence sharing.

On April 25, coordinated attacks targeted several locations in Mali, including Bamako, Kati, Gao and Sevare, in one of the country's most serious escalations in recent years. Mali's Defense Minister Sadio Camara was killed in an attack on his residence in Kati, according to media reports.
