WINDHOEK, May 1 (Xinhua) -- At least 11 people were killed after a passenger bus carrying medical staff and patients collided head-on with a truck in central Namibia early Friday, about 30 km south of the town of Otjiwarongo, the country's national broadcaster NBC News reported.
The crash occurred at around 6:00 a.m. local time (0400 GMT) along a major highway linking central and northern Namibia when the bus traveling from the northern town of Khorixas collided with a truck.
Authorities confirmed that at least 11 people died on impact, with recovery operations ongoing at the scene, the broadcaster said.
Namibian Police forensic teams, together with traffic officials and the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund, have been deployed from Windhoek to assist in identifying victims and investigating the cause of the crash.
Officials said the scene remains sensitive, as recovery efforts continue, with the remains to be transported to Windhoek for forensic examination. ■
