WINDHOEK, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has underscored the need for stronger collaboration between Namibia and Zimbabwe's judicial institutions, calling for closer cooperation to ensure justice prevails in both countries.
Speaking during a courtesy visit at State House by Zimbabwe's Chief Justice Luke Malaba and his delegation on Tuesday, Nandi-Ndaitwah said she was keen to gain deeper insight into how the two judiciaries are working together.
She noted that both Namibia and Zimbabwe are governed by the rule of law, emphasizing that judicial cooperation is essential for strengthening legal systems and ensuring the effective delivery of justice.
Namibia's Chief Justice Peter Shivute and his Zimbabwean counterpart highlighted the long-standing relationship between the two countries' judicial institutions.
Both sides said that while a formal legal framework signed in 2024 institutionalized cooperation, collaboration had already been ongoing for years through exchange visits and mutual judicial support.
The two countries have now agreed to further strengthen ties between their judiciaries following talks held in Windhoek between Shivute and Malaba.
Discussions focused on ongoing exchanges between the two court systems, including judicial training, court administration, and case management practices.
Namibia has hosted Zimbabwean officials for training in alternative dispute resolution and judicial preparation programs.
Meanwhile, Namibia is preparing to send a delegation to Zimbabwe to study magistrate training systems, in a move aimed at enhancing capacity and sharing best practices between the two nations. ■
