DAKAR, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Senegal's economy is projected to grow by 2.5 percent in 2026, down from 6.7 percent in 2025, the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Cooperation said on Wednesday.

According to a report released by the ministry, the slowdown is mainly attributed to a reduced contribution from the hydrocarbons sector following a full year of production. Growth excluding hydrocarbons and agriculture is expected to reach 3.0 percent in 2026.

From the supply side, growth is expected to be driven mainly by the primary and tertiary sectors. The primary sector is projected to grow by 4.8 percent and the tertiary sector by 2.8 percent, while growth in the secondary sector is forecast at 1.0 percent, weighed down by weaker performance in hydrocarbons.

From the demand side, exports are projected to rise by 1.6 percent, final consumption by 3.4 percent, investment by 3.7 percent, and imports by 4.5 percent.

The report said Senegal aims to complete fiscal consolidation by 2027 and keep the budget deficit at 3 percent of GDP.

It added that the overall economic growth is expected to gradually rise to 6 percent by 2031.
