LIBREVILLE, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Wu Weihua, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, has reaffirmed China's commitment to carrying forward its traditional friendship with Gabon.

During his visit to Gabon from Sunday to Tuesday, Wu met with Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema and held talks with National Assembly President Regis Onanga Ndiaye and First Vice President of the Senate Serge Maurice Mabiala.

Noting that China and Gabon share a long-standing friendship, Wu said that in recent years, under the strategic guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Gabonese President Nguema, bilateral relations have maintained sound development momentum, with fruitful cooperation achieved in various fields.

China is willing to work with Gabon to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, carry forward the traditional friendship, strengthen exchanges on governance experience, and promote the in-depth development of the China-Gabon comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, Wu said.

Wu also introduced China's zero-tariff measures for 53 African countries with which it has diplomatic relations.

The Gabonese side highly appreciated the achievements in bilateral relations and China's zero-tariff policy for African countries, and expressed their steadfast commitment to the one-China principle.

They also expressed their willingness to work with China to enhance exchanges and cooperation between legislative bodies, deepen cooperation in fields such as resource development, infrastructure construction and agriculture, and translate the traditional friendship between the two countries into more tangible benefits for both peoples.
