JUBA, March 25 (Xinhua) -- South Sudan said Wednesday that it has stepped up efforts to expand oil production through increased investment and coordination with foreign partners as global crude prices remain high.
Chol Deng Thon Abel, undersecretary in the Ministry of Petroleum, said the ministry held a series of engagements with joint operating companies to accelerate output, focusing on key oil blocks operated by international and national firms.
He told reporters in Juba, the capital of South Sudan, that the engagements involved major industry players, including Dar Petroleum Operating Company, and partners such as China National Petroleum Corporation, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, and Nile Petroleum Corporation.
The official said recent drilling activities in the Al Nahal field in Blocks 3 and 7 have yielded promising results, with one well producing over 5,000 barrels per day, contributing to a rise in overall output.
Deng said South Sudan's oil production has increased from about 95,000 barrels per day to 100,000 barrels per day following the latest developments.
Ling Zongfa, president of Dar Petroleum Operating Company, said the company has drilled 16 wells since resuming operations in October last year, with 12 already commissioned. He noted that production has exceeded initial forecasts due to improved reservoir management and the use of new technologies.
He added that continued studies and investment will support further contributions to South Sudan's economy. ■
