COTONOU, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Twenty Beninese nationals were killed and 58 others seriously injured in a mountain road accident Sunday afternoon in Kara, in northern Togo near the border with Benin, the Beninese state-run daily La Nation reported Monday.
According to the newspaper, the victims, who were from the commune of Copargo in northwestern Benin, had traveled to Kara the previous day to attend a funeral.
On their way back from the ceremony, the driver of a truck taking the mourners lost control of the vehicle, which struck a tricycle, also carrying mourners, from behind, the newspaper reported, noting that the accident was caused by a flat tire of the truck.
The injured were evacuated to health facilities in Togo for medical care, the report said. ■
