DAR ES SALAAM, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Heavy rains continuing across parts of Tanzania, including the Serengeti National Park, have damaged several tourism infrastructure such as bridges and river crossings, disrupting the movement of tourist vehicles, the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) said on Friday.
TANAPA said in a public notice that rising water levels and damaged crossings have made it difficult for some tourist vehicles to pass through certain areas of the park.
Some visitors have been unable to reach their designated hotels and tourist camps, while others who have completed their trips are experiencing delays exiting the park, according to the notice.
TANAPA advised drivers of tourist vehicles to remain patient and calm and to wait until water levels subside before attempting to cross flooded sections to ensure safety.
"All drivers are reminded and warned that crossing rivers during flooding is dangerous and poses a serious risk to their safety as well as that of the tourists they are carrying," the authority said.
Catherine Mbena, assistant conservation commissioner and head of communications at TANAPA, said the authority will continue to monitor the situation and take necessary measures to ensure the safety of visitors and staff. ■
