WINDHOEK, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's government on Monday reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, as enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and international law.

The reaffirmation came after the recent escalation of tensions in and around the Middle East as a result of joint U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on Tehran and other Iranian cities, which killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as well as some of the leader's family members, senior military commanders and civilians.

In an official statement, Namibia's Ministry of International Relations and Trade said such developments heighten tensions in an already fragile region and risk further destabilizing international peace and security.

"These developments present a serious escalation with far-reaching implications for regional stability and international peace and security," the ministry noted.

Namibia called on all parties concerned to exercise maximum restraint, ensure the immediate cessation of hostilities, and return to dialogue and diplomatic engagement as the only viable pathway toward sustainable peace, according to the statement.
