CAIRO, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Egypt on Wednesday strongly condemned a recent attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on civilians in Sudan's North Darfur State, renewing its commitment to Sudan's unity and stability.

In a statement, Egypt's Foreign Ministry denounced the RSF attack on the town of Mustariha, which resulted in civilian casualties and destroyed the area's only health facility.

Egypt described the attack as "a flagrant violation" of international humanitarian law, emphasizing its "complete rejection of all forms of violence and violations against civilians and medical facilities."

The ministry called for "an urgent humanitarian truce" as a precursor to a sustainable ceasefire, and comprehensive political solutions that meet the aspirations of the Sudanese people.

"Egypt renews affirmation of the constants of its position regarding the crisis in Sudan, particularly the adherence to the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Sudanese state," said the ministry.

On Tuesday, at least 28 civilians were killed and 39 others injured in the RSF assault on Mustariha, according to the Sudan Doctors Network, a volunteer medical group.

Since 2023, Sudan has been mired in conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF, which has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced millions both domestically and abroad.
