ACCRA, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Ghanaian government said in a statement on Wednesday that it has made an additional payment of 10 billion Ghana cedis (about 909.5 million U.S. dollars) to service interest obligations under the Domestic Debt Exchange Program (DDEP).
The statement from the Ministry of Finance said the payment covered cedi-denominated DDEP coupons and represents the sixth settlement under the program.
"This settlement is in line with the restructuring memorandum and the government's broader debt management and fiscal consolidation strategy," the statement said.
It added that the timely payment sends a strong positive signal to domestic and external investors, reinforcing market confidence, and is expected to improve Ghana's credit outlook while enhancing stability within the financial sector.
Ghana embarked on the DDEP in late 2022 as part of the conditions for securing support from the International Monetary Fund for its reform program during a period of economic crisis. ■
