DAR ES SALAAM, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- The expert team of the China-aided Zanzibar schistosomiasis prevention and control project on Wednesday held a charity donation and cultural exchange event on Pemba Island.

The event at Ng'ambwa Primary School was organized in response to the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, attended by representatives from local education and health authorities, teachers, and students.

The Chinese experts donated clothing, footballs, and school supplies to improve students' learning and recreational conditions. They also conducted a health lecture to share knowledge on the transmission, prevention, and screening of schistosomiasis.

Mohamed Nassor Salim, coordinator of the Ministry of Education on Pemba Island, said the event combined cultural interaction with health education and material support, injecting momentum into students' all-round development and strengthening China-Africa educational cooperation.

He added that such initiatives could encourage families and communities to engage in disease prevention through an approach where children influence their families.

Wang Wei, head of the Chinese expert team, said the event integrated public welfare assistance with on-campus health education. He expressed hope that by combining cultural exchange with health education, China-Africa friendship would take deeper root among the younger generation.
