RABAT, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Morocco's unemployment rate decreased to 13 percent in 2025 from 13.3 percent in 2024, the country's national statistics agency said on Tuesday.
The number of unemployed people hit 1.62 million in 2025, the High Commission for Planning said in a press release, adding that 193,000 new jobs were created last year in the country.
Rural unemployment fell from 16.9 percent in 2024 to 16.4 percent in 2025, and urban unemployment declined from 6.8 percent to 6.6 percent. Youth unemployment, however, rose to 37.2 percent from 36.7 percent, and the female rate increased to 20.5 percent from 19.4 percent.
Unemployment in Morocco has remained relatively high for years as the country is facing prolonged severe drought that has heavily affected the primary sector generating 12 percent of the country's economy. ■
