KINSHASA, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- The airport in the provincial capital of Tshopo in northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) came under a drone attack over the weekend, local authorities said Monday.
Several drones carrying non-conventional munitions targeted Bangboka Airport, located in Kisangani, the capital of Tshopo province, between Saturday and Sunday, the Tshopo regional government said in a statement issued Monday.
Eight drones were intercepted and neutralized by the DRC armed forces, the statement said.
No casualties were reported.
Eastern DRC has for decades been plagued by armed violence involving rebel groups and regional forces, triggering one of the world's most severe humanitarian crises. ■
