DAR ES SALAAM, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Tanzania has called for the development of clear and flexible policy guidelines to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicle (EV) technology and boost private sector participation, a senior official said Thursday.

Richard Muyungi, a permanent secretary in the Office of the Vice President, made the remarks after receiving a technical policy guidance document from the Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH).

Muyungi said that Tanzania needs to create an enabling regulatory environment and provide incentives to encourage private investment in EV infrastructure. He noted that wider EV adoption would help promote environmental conservation, supported by the country's expanding electricity generation capacity.

He also urged technical institutions to strengthen professional training to build local capacity in the EV sector.

COSTECH Director of Innovation and Technology Gerald Kafuku said the commission plans to develop training curricula and engage international partners to support technology transfer and skills development.
