CAIRO, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Egypt has made several new oil and gas discoveries in the Western Desert and the Nile Delta, which will increase production by over 4,300 barrels of oil and 47 million cubic feet (cf) of gas per day, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said Friday.
The discoveries resulted from successful drilling operations, including five new exploratory wells, conducted by Khalda Petroleum, the General Petroleum Company (GPC), and Disouq Petroleum Company (DISOUCO) in their concession areas, the ministry said in a statement.
Khalda Petroleum reported three new discoveries with a combined output of some 2,550 barrels per day of oil and condensates and 29 million cf of gas daily, it said.
DISOUCO, in partnership with Harbour Energy, confirmed a significant gas-bearing layer in the Abu Madi reservoir in the Nile Delta through its Az-2 appraisal well, it said.
Meanwhile, the state-owned GPC brought new wells into production in the Western and Eastern Deserts, adding over 1,250 barrels of oil and condensates and 8 million cf of gas per day, it said.
These discoveries will support Egypt's national energy output and strengthen domestic production efforts, the ministry added. ■
