LILONGWE, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- The World Health Organization (WHO) on Thursday provided Malawi's Ministry of Health and Sanitation with medical supplies, worth 182 million U.S. dollars, to help the country respond to the ongoing cholera outbreak and recent flood-related health emergencies.

During the handover ceremony on Thursday in the capital city of Lilongwe, WHO Country Representative to Malawi Neema Kimambo said the support aims to improve treatment centers for cholera, places for oral rehydration, and health facilities for people affected by floods.

The supplies include intravenous fluids, oral rehydration salts, infusion sets and consumables, cholera investigation and community response modules, essential medicines, antiseptics, personal protective equipment, and Inter-Agency Emergency Health Kits.

She said the contribution complements ongoing interventions by the Malawi government and helps address the urgent health needs of affected communities.

Malawi's Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation Charles Chilambula commended WHO for the support, also calling on other partners to support the country's cholera response.

Malawi has recorded 26 cases and one death since Dec. 11, 2025, according to Chilambula.
