MASERU, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Lesotho has granted the China International Water and Electric Corporation a major infrastructure contract to upgrade the Matlali-Lebakeng road and build a bridge over the Senqu River in Qacha's Nek District, local media reported Wednesday.
According to Lesotho News Agency, the four-year project, set to commence this month, will be implemented by Lesotho's Ministry of Public Works and Transport in collaboration with the Roads Directorate, expected to bring transformative development to communities in Qacha's Nek District.
"Crossing the river has always been dangerous, especially for the elderly, children, and the sick. During heavy rains, people are forced to stay home even when they need urgent medical attention. This bridge will bring safety and dignity to our daily lives," Hopo Motopi, a resident, was quoted as saying.
The project continues a successful track record of Chinese companies delivering transformative infrastructure in Lesotho, including major road networks, government buildings, and water facilities that have become vital pillars of the nation's development. ■
