NAIROBI, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Property Developers Association of Kenya (KCDA), an alliance of investors in the real estate sector, on Friday donated two million Kenyan shillings (about 15,500 U.S. dollars) to support 30 local students pursuing university education.
The donation ceremony was held at the University of Nairobi and was attended by senior faculty members, industry executives, and students.
KCDA President Zhang Jiaping said the scholarships aim to help local youth realize their academic aspirations while deepening cultural understanding between China and Kenya.
"May you take knowledge as your compass, ideas as your blueprint, and a sense of responsibility as your foundation," Zhang told the beneficiaries.
Margaret Hutchinson, acting vice chancellor of the University of Nairobi, said the initiative reflects an investment in sustainable development while strengthening Sino-Kenyan friendship.
She added that KCDA is contributing to the nurturing of a new generation of professionals who will lead with skills, innovation, and a strong sense of responsibility.
Wang Shangxue, director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi, said the scholarship program is designed to cultivate outstanding young professionals and future development leaders in Kenya.
Established in Nairobi in 2024, the KCDA brings together Chinese real estate developers operating in the country to promote industry coordination, ensure compliance with local regulations, and support the provision of high-quality, sustainable housing. ■
