ACCRA, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to implement lasting reforms in the country, aiming to deliver sustainable and inclusive development to the people.

Mahama made the pledge on Tuesday during the 77th Annual New Year School and Conference organized by the University of Ghana in Accra, the country's capital.

"I will make use of this second mandate so graciously granted to me by Ghanaians to reform our economy and governance to a level that no succeeding government can reverse," the president said.

According to him, the administration would sustain the fiscal discipline and sound economic management introduced in 2025 throughout his tenure and strengthen domestic revenue mobilization to enable the country to finance its development agenda from domestic resources.

"We shall not ease the current fiscal discipline and efficient management of the economy even in the election year of 2028," he said.

Regarding governance, Mahama stated that it is time for Ghana to set an example, especially given the pressure on democratic governance in some parts of West Africa.
