CONAKRY, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- President-elect of the Republic of Guinea Mamady Doumbouya has vowed to work for unity, the rule of law and shared prosperity in the west African country.
Addressed the nation on Sunday, Doumbouya thanked Guinean people for their maturity, calm and strong sense of responsibility throughout the presidential election process, which he said showcased the country's ability to advance its political process in accordance with the law and with respect for institutions.
"There are neither winners nor losers today. There is only one Guinea, united and indivisible," he said, calling on people across the country to rise above differences, strengthen unity and jointly participate in national development.
Doumbouya said that his new term would be guided by the principles of hard work, rigor and unity, with priority given to economic development and improving people's livelihoods.
He pledged to strengthening the rule of law, enhancing public services and advancing reforms in key sectors such as education, health and infrastructure, so that the fruits of development would benefit all citizens.
The government would continue to maintain dialogue with all segments of society, consolidate national stability, promote social reconciliation, and deepen cooperation with regional countries and the international community on the basis of mutual respect, Doumbouya said.
The new term would mark an important stage in "jointly writing a new chapter in Guinea's history," he said, vowing to serve the country and its people with a strong sense of responsibility, and strive to achieve lasting peace and prosperity.
Guinea's Supreme Court on Sunday evening confirmed the final results of the Dec. 28 presidential election, declaring Doumbouya the winner with 86.72 percent of the vote. ■
