CAIRO, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- At least one person was killed and several others injured after a gas explosion caused a building to collapse in Giza province near Cairo on Thursday evening, according to an official statement and local media reports.
The explosion, which occurred in the Imbaba district, resulted in the collapse of one residential building, read a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum.
It is suspected to have been caused by a gas leak from a liquefied petroleum gas cylinder inside an apartment, read the statement, adding that an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.
According to local media reports, the blast also caused partial damage to nearby structures. ■
