TUNIS, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of Tunisian students rallied in downtown Tunis on Tuesday to show solidarity with the Palestinian people, marking two years since the outbreak of the Gaza conflict in October 2023.

Organized by the General Union of Students of Tunisia, the demonstration began in front of the Municipal Theater on Habib Bourguiba Avenue. Participants chanted slogans calling for the liberation of Palestine and denouncing normalization with Israel.

Protesters also expressed support for Palestinian resistance and urged a boycott of companies accused of aiding Israel. The marches proceeded peacefully under tight security.

The war began on October 7, 2023, with a Hamas-led assault on southern Israel that Israeli officials say killed around 1,200 people and resulted in the capture of around 250 hostages. In the two years since, Israel's military operations have created a catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza, where the death toll has surpassed 67,000, according to local health authorities.
