TRIPOLI, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Libya's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said Tuesday that a vehicle carrying about 20 migrants overturned along a desert road south of the city Jalu, during which five people were killed.

The CID said its branch in the Al-Wahat region received a tip-off about the vehicle. A security patrol was dispatched to the site and found a Toyota Sequoia overturned with migrants on board.

Four migrants and the driver were found dead at the scene of the accident. The remaining passengers were rescued and transferred to Jalu Central Hospital for medical treatment, according to the statement.

The statement said the driver's assistant, who was allegedly involved in the smuggling attempt, has been arrested. Preliminary investigations had begun with the survivors whose health conditions allowed questioning.
