NAIROBI, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Tourist arrivals in Kenya rose by 2.3 percent in the first five months of 2025, driven by the country's efforts to diversify its tourism products and source markets, the national statistics bureau said Thursday in a report.

The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) said in a report released in the national capital of Nairobi that the East African country received 922,961 tourists through various border points during the period, up from 902,076 in a similar period in 2024.

The highest number of visitors arrived in January, totaling 217,753, followed by February with 196,146, and May with 171,269, according to the KNBS.

In terms of entry points, most tourists arrived through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, while others entered via cruise ships, various land border crossings, and Moi International Airport in the coastal city of Mombasa, said the KNBS.

Kenya is diversifying its tourism offerings through its flagship "Magical Kenya" campaign, with a focus on promoting sports, cruise, and adventure tourism.

Tourist arrivals in Kenya grew by 14.6 percent in 2024 to reach 2.4 million, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife. Kenya is targeting more than 5 million tourists in the medium term, Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Maino said in a recent interview.

The tourism and wildlife sector remains one of Kenya's leading sources of foreign exchange.
