LUSAKA, June 10 (Xinhua) -- The remains of late former Zambian President Edgar Lungu will not arrive in the country on Wednesday as earlier announced, a family spokesperson announced.

Makebi Zulu, who is also the lawyer for the former president, confirmed on Tuesday that the repatriation of Lungu's remains has been postponed, and a new date will be communicated in due course.

Speaking during a memorial service held in South Africa, Zulu said alternative arrangements are being made.

On Saturday, Zulu said the family had resolved to repatriate the remains privately. However, the government on Sunday announced that the remains of Lungu, who passed away in a South African hospital on June 5, would arrive in Zambia on June 11.

The government has declared a seven-day mourning period from June 8 to 14.
