TRIPOLI, May 26 (Xinhua) -- The Libyan Foreign Ministry on Monday welcomed the reopening of the Tunisian consulate in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi following a 10-year hiatus.
In a statement, the ministry said the step comes following bilateral efforts to facilitate consular services for the Libyan people and the Tunisian community in the eastern region.
It also stressed the importance of achieving common interests of the Libyan and Tunisian peoples and consolidating diplomatic and political cooperation between the two countries.
The Tunisian Foreign Ministry on Sunday announced the reopening of the Tunisian consulate in Benghazi, which was closed in 2014 when militants threw a grenade that damaged the building's outer wall. ■
