JOHANNESBURG, May 22 (Xinhua) -- The South African government on Thursday described its delegation's recent engagement with the White House as "a defining diplomatic dialogue" that reinforced the country's global voice.
In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the government said, "Team South Africa's White House engagement in Washington, D.C. marked a critical moment for South Africa's voice on the global stage."
"Our delegation led with clarity, dignity, and focus -- displaying what it means to stay grounded in truth, values, and purpose even under pressure," it stated.
The South African government highlighted the "key outcomes" of the meeting, including a focus on investment and inclusive growth. "Calm, fact-based clarity challenged disinformation," it noted. "South Africa affirmed its voice in the Global South."
"The diplomatic dialogue continues, with deeper intent," it added. "This is not the conclusion of our message. It's the continuation of our mission."
These outcomes formed part of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa's state working visit to the United States from May 19 to 22, which culminated in a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House.
One of the objectives of the visit was to "reset" relations between South Africa and the United States, after months of tension that led to U.S. aid funding cuts, a 31 percent increase in trade tariffs, and the signing of an executive order allowing white South Africans to be considered refugees in the United States. ■
