CAIRO, May 23 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people were killed and seven others wounded on Friday when a microbus overturned on the desert road of Minya province, south of the Egyptian capital of Cairo, according to local media.
Initial investigations attributed the accident to the driver's excessive speed resulting in loss of control of the vehicle, Youm7 news website reported, adding that ambulances transferred the wounded to Minya Public Hospital.
Traffic accidents claim thousands of lives in Egypt every year. Most of the accidents were caused by speeding, negligence of traffic rules and laws, and poor maintenance of roads.
Over the past few years, Egypt has been upgrading its traffic infrastructure by building new roads and bridges and repairing old ones to ease traffic and reduce accidents. ■
