LUANDA, May 21 (Xinhua) -- One person has been reported missing following a fire on a Chevron-operated offshore oil platform in northern Angola's Cabinda Province, according to a statement released Wednesday by the country's National Agency of Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG).
The ANPG confirmed in an earlier release that the fire broke out early Tuesday morning, leaving 17 people injured, including four seriously. The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
The Benguela Belize Lobito Tomboco (BBLT) deepwater platform is operated by Cabinda Gulf Oil Company, a subsidiary of the U.S. oil giant Chevron. It is located in Block 14, off the coast of Cabinda.
The incident occurred while the facility was undergoing annual maintenance and had been shut down since May 1.
According to ANPG's February production report, Block 14 produced an average of 42,195 barrels of crude oil per day, accounting for about 4 percent of Angola's total daily output. ■
