DAR ES SALAAM, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Key players in tourism and investment in Tanzania's Zanzibar have signed a memorandum of understanding to promote the Indian Ocean islands on the global stage.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Minister of Tourism and Heritage Mudrick Ramadhan Soraga on Tuesday night, ahead of the Zanzibar Tourism and Investment Show scheduled for June 20 to 21.

The agreement bound the show with significant industry associations, including the Zanzibar Commission for Tourism, the Zanzibar Association of Tourism Investors, the Hotel Association of Zanzibar, the Zanzibar Association of Tour Operators, the Zanzibar Tour Guides Association, the Zanzibar National Chamber of Commerce, and the Real Estate Development Association.

Soraga hailed the moment as a significant step forward to promote Zanzibar, emphasizing that, for the first time, all major institutions have come together with a shared commitment to advancing the Zanzibar archipelago's development agenda.

"We have now created a united front that reflects the unwavering support of all institutions toward the government of Zanzibar," he said.

Tourism continues to be the mainstay of Zanzibar's economy, accounting for over 30 percent of the total economic output and supporting thousands of jobs. The destination attracted over 736,000 international visitors in 2024, which is expected to rise this year.
