CAIRO, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- At least eight people have been killed and three others injured following the collapse of a six-story residential building in Cairo on Tuesday, according to the Egyptian Health Ministry.
The collapse occurred in the Abbassia neighborhood, located in the Al-Wayli district of the Egyptian capital. In response, the ministry deployed nine ambulances to the scene, and the victims were taken to a nearby hospital.
Health Ministry spokesman Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar stated that ambulances remain stationed at the site to assist with rubble removal and to search for any additional survivors or bodies.
Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber Khalil has ordered the evacuation of nearby buildings as a precaution and established an engineering committee to investigate the cause of the collapse. Additionally, the Ministry of Social Solidarity has compiled a list of the victims to provide them with urgent financial support. ■
