Tanzania's Faustine Engelbert Ndugulile elected as new WHO regional director for Africa

BRAZZAVILLE, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Faustine Engelbert Ndugulile of Tanzania was elected on Tuesday as the World Health Organization (WHO) regional director for Africa, succeeding Matshidiso Moeti, who has held the position since 2015.

The new regional director was elected from among three other candidates for the position: Boureima Hama Sambo of Niger, Richard Mihigo of Rwanda, and Ibrahima Soce Fall of Senegal.

The new WHO regional director for Africa, elected during the 74th session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa, is committed to continuing reforms to improve healthcare conditions and the health of African populations in the face of multiple challenges, including mpox.
